Belgium unites Europe: over one thousand international organisations are based here and Belgium’s capital Brussels is home to central institutions of the European Union. The European Parliament is therefore just as much a major tourist attraction as the 102-metre high Atomium or Brussels’ landmark, the Manneken Pis statue. As far as its countryside is concerned, Belgium particularly impresses with idyllic coastlines and the green wooded mountains of the Ardennes.
In addition to Brussels, the country also offers popular travel destinations such as Antwerp, Bruges and Gent in Flanders, or Liège and Bergen in Wallonia. Culinary delights play an important role in every region; but the county is mainly renowned for its authentic Belgian “pommes frites” and chocolate pralines.
